| Miscellaneous Notes: | |||||||||||||||
Area damage can unintentionally hit treasure guardians. This will cause the guardian to attack the source of the area damage (cannons, cavalry, etc.), so make it an advantage. Place your army over the guardian's so the enemy may accidentally attack the guardian when attacking your force. | |||||||||||||
The enemy can be observed fighting treasure guardians through the fog of war. It's ok to steal in video games! | |||||||||||||
The player who collects the most treasures in the game will be awarded 500 XP at the end. | |||||||||||||
Treasure markers sometimes stay on the map even when they have been dealt with. | |||||||||||||
Guardians do not have regeneration. However, after they run away a certain distance from their treasure, they will stop following the attacker, fully heal, and go back to the treasure. | |||||||||||||
The first unit to attack the guardians will be the focus of their attention until the unit is dead. They will then attack the next allied unit of the attacker in range. | |||||||||||||
If there are multiple guardians, the ones that don't get damaged first will sometimes attack the closest unit to it | |||||||||||||
See "Unit - Pet Statistics" Worksheet for Tamed Pet statistics (i.e. Bear, Wolf, Jaguar, etc.) for captured treasures (identical to the Native shipped in / trained pets) and for the pets obtained through the Friendship ability (do not auto upgrade). | |||||||||||||
| GET LARGE TREASURES (CREEPING) | |||||||||||||||
For example, the 4 black bear treasure guarding a CdB is easy. Here's how: | |||||||||||||
Crack shot the first bear, run away, and the 3 remaining follow. They chase a preset distance from the treasure and return. When they turn around, IMMEDIATELY fire on the last bear. The bear will run a short distance back to the treasure, pause, and allow 1-2 more shots before returning. A few hacks will then kill. Meanwhile, the other 2 bears will run back to the treasure, turn around, and try to attack again. They will arrive as the third bear is dead. As soon as the third bear dies, run away again until the 2 bears turn back towards the treasure and immediately shoot the second bear. Repeat until all dead. | |||||||||||||
Warning, hit points on guardians reset when they turn back to guard the treasure. Ensure the explorer is at the edge of the preset distance so the guardian will enter melee rather than turning back. | |||||||||||||
This does not work as well on brown or polar bears because they are tougher (the timing doesn't work out). It is a good idea to use this technique to kill the second of TWO TOTAL brown or polar bears, since a few free shots are available as they pause and run back. The explorer can outfight a single polar bear if get 2 shots first and have a respectable amount of HP left. | |||||||||||||
This works better on wolf treasures (easily 6 wolves). A sweet spot exists where only 1 guardian will stay and fight while the rest get caught in a loop of running back and forth from the explorer to the treasure. | |||||||||||||
This technique works well with any melee guardian. It also works on combo treasures guarded by one ranged cavalry and two wolves, or similar. Shoot the ranged attacker with crack shot. | |||||||||||||
Warning, jaguars do not react like other guardians. | |||||||||||||
A technique to beat a treasure guarded by two shooters is to put the explorer into melee mode (the best mode to attack blow gunners and pistoleers/riflemen), walk close to the second guardian, crack shot the first guardian (far away), and shift click to enter melee with the second guardian. This way the first is killed instantly and then start whaling on the second. | |||||||||||||
A military shipment is required for the large treasure guardian hordes. As Ottoman, the 5 spahi at about 7 minutes gets 2-3 large treasures (240xp, 400 gold/food, etc.) without any significant damage. They then go raiding. | |||||||||||||
The Spanish dog (or the explorer dog) can pick a fight with melee guardians and run a circle around the explorer. The melee guardians will chase while the explorer shoots repeatedly. Since the guardians never get far from the treasure, their hit points never reset. This is not a lot of micro, just a series of long rapid shift clicks. | |||||||||||||
Polar explorer as Russian is the dominate treasure hunter. | |||||||||||||
If an outpost is near a guardian that is NOT AN ANIMAL, it can fire on the guardian with ease (animals tear down fast). | |||||||||||||
Make sure the enemy explorer can not get your treasure by placing a settler near it. Settlers can pick up treasures too. | |||||||||||||
If there is a ledge above or below a guardian, start shooting. The guardians will try to find a path to the explorer and will waste a lot of time first trying to jump the ledge. | |||||||||||||
