Miscellaneous Notes:
1 The list above represents all of the units in AOE3 that have a damage cap included.  All of these units, with the exception of the Abus gun, have an area of effect damage.  The fact that the Abus gun has a damage cap seems to be a bug where it possibly had area damage in beta testing.  Damage capacity only applies to area damage.  Units that have two attack types (melee and ranged), the damage cap only applies to the method with area damage.  The damage cap in trample damage is excluded since the trample formation is useless.  
2 Added a damage cap estimate which decreases the “effectiveness” value of all units with an area of attack and makes the spreadsheet more accurate.  I assume the damage cap increases with all upgrades (HC shipment, veteran, guard, etc.) and increases with multipliers to different unit types (i.e. damage cap is increased for culverin versus artillery by a factor of 4).    
3 All melee cavalry (cossack, hussar, uhlan, etc.) have a damage cap on trample damage which is not included since this spreadsheet does not compare this unit formation.  The trample formation is currently useless.
4 The Dopplesoldner should not have a damage cap on siege damage to stay consistent with other hand heavy infantry units.
